What is RCX Wax? Why We Use It at Bonnie Glow

If you've ever squinted at a candle label and thought "what on earth is RCX wax?" — firstly, well done for reading the label. You're already better than most.

At Bonnie Glow, we're a wee bit obsessed with what goes into our tins. No paraffin. No dodgy petroleum by-products. No cutting corners just because nobody's watching. Just clean-burning, planet-friendly wax that smells so good it should probably be illegal.

So, what actually is RCX wax?

RCX wax is a premium rapeseed and coconut wax blend, made in Europe by the brilliant folk at Candle Shack. It's 100% vegan, sustainably sourced, and biodegradable. In short: it's the good stuff.

Unlike paraffin wax — which is essentially a petroleum by-product and absolutely does not spark joy — RCX burns cleaner, cooler, and longer. Better scent throw, more even burn, and nae nasties floating about your living room. Your lungs will thank you. Your nostrils will thank you. Your cat will probably still ignore you, but that's not our fault.

"But what about soy wax?"

Aye, we hear you. Soy wax gets a lot of good press, and fair enough — it's better than paraffin. But here's the thing: most soy wax is shipped over from the US or South America, where large-scale farming has been linked to some pretty grim deforestation. Not exactly the eco win it's marketed as.

RCX uses rapeseed grown right here in Europe — shorter supply chain, lower carbon footprint, and frankly more our kind of thing. We're a Scottish brand. We like things local.

Why we chose RCX

When we were developing our candles, we tested more waxes than we care to admit. We wanted something that held fragrance beautifully, burned cleanly, and didn't make us feel like hypocrites every time we talked about sustainability. RCX nailed it.

It also works a treat in our rose-gold reusable tins — because once your candle's done, we'd rather you repurpose the tin than bin it. Cotton buds, paperclips, wee trinkets, the spare button that came with your coat that you'll definitely use someday — the possibilities are endless.
